Ferry-Morse Emerald Artichoke, Green Globe Improved & Purple Heirloom Seeds

These are Heirloom Artichoke seeds, passed down for generations and originating in Southern Europe and the Mediterranean. Start planting early indoors for mouth-watering success in any climate! This packet includes two wonderful varieties that are wonderful as cut flowers: Green Globe Improved & Purple of Romagna. A cool season crop, plant these artichokes in Early Spring for cool climates, or early fall for warm climates. 180-240 days. There is enough seed in this packet for a 20-foot row.

Artichoke Imperial Star Seeds

Easiest to grow from seed. Specifically bred for annual production, Imperial Star produces artichokes the first season from seed. Typically 6-8 mature buds, avg. 3-4" diam., per plant; plants 3-4' tall, spreading. Perennial to Zone 7; otherwise, treat as an annual.

Green Globe Artichoke Seeds - Cynara Scolymus -

Artichokes are a delicious vegetable from the thistle family that can be grown as a perennial in mild areas and an annual where the ground freezes. Covering with mulch will help them to over-winter in moderate climates. Artichoke plants are very large, growing several feet tall. The hearts are delicious and have many culinary uses and the leaves are also good for food. The plant also can be used ornamentally, often grown in borders.

Artichoke plants reach 3 to 4 feet high and up to 8 feet wide, so Artichokes are best suited for large gardens, but can also be grown in very large containers. Artichoke seeds are difficult to find and our supply is limited, so order early!
