Giant Flag -- a member of the onion family but more delicately flavored. Very mild and sweet -- superb creamed and delicious for soups and stews. The edible stems are 6 to 8 inches in length and about 1 inch in diameter. Hardy and easily grown. 85 days to maturity. Planting guide: Sow early in spring 1/4 inch deep in drills 12 to 15 inches apart. Thin to 5 inches apart, and draw the earth about them when cultivating. When plants have attained almost full size the earth should be drawn around them to a height of 6 or 8 inches, so as to blanch the fleshy stems. more info...
